Vegetarian Food in Dubai: Jain Meals, Cruises from ₹1,162

Yes. Vegetarian food is easy to find in Dubai, including pure-vegetarian Indian kitchens. Dubai mein vegetarian khana milta hai? It does, from an unlimited thali in Karama to a 16-course vegetarian tasting menu in Dubai Hills, and Dubai's official tourism guide lists both.
Two things need more planning: Jain food, and the meals that come as part of a tour. On a desert safari, a dhow cruise or a yacht, the kitchen belongs to the operator. Some serve vegetarian food as standard, some only if you ask in advance, and one set of shared yachts we sell has no Jain meal on its menus.
Vegetarian and Jain meals on Emirates from Ahmedabad
Emirates flies Ahmedabad to Dubai nine times a week at the time of writing, and its route page puts the flight at about 2 hours 50 minutes. You can book a special meal up to 24 hours before departure through Manage Your Booking. Three codes matter to Indian families:
- Indian Vegetarian Meal (AVML): no meat, fish, eggs or animal gelatine. Dairy is allowed.
- Vegetarian Jain Meal (VJML): no animal products, no dairy, and no root vegetables. Emirates' list includes onions, garlic, ginger, potatoes, carrots, radishes, turmeric and mushrooms.
- Non-Vegetarian Hindu Meal (HNML): despite the name, this one is not vegetarian. Emirates says it can contain lamb, chicken, fish and eggs. Check you have not picked it by mistake.
Children need one extra step. Emirates identifies children on a booking and gives those aged 2 to 12 its child meal, which can contain chicken, fish and meat. A vegetarian child meal can only be arranged by contacting the Emirates service centre, so do it when you book, not at the gate.
Emirates also says some dietary meals are not offered in Economy on flights shorter than two hours. The Ahmedabad flight is longer than that, but confirm your meal shows on the booking. The full list is on the Emirates dietary requirements page. On any other airline, check its own special-meals page when you book.
Where to find vegetarian food in Dubai
For everyday vegetarian food, go to Bur Dubai and Al Karama. Visit Dubai describes Meena Bazaar as "Bur Dubai's own little India", and five of the ten restaurants on its vegetarian list, including all three thali places, are within about 15 minutes' walk of BurJuman Metro station, on the Red and Green lines.
Visit Dubai's vegetarian restaurant guide, published on 8 July 2024, lists ten; these are the ones that matter for a Gujarati or Jain family:
- Rangoli, Al Karama: the budget choice, an unlimited vegetarian thali from around AED 30 per person. About 12 minutes' walk from BurJuman.
- Rasoi Ghar: food from Gujarat and Rajasthan, with a thali that changes daily and servers who keep refilling your bowls. Visit Dubai (July 2024) places it opposite BurJuman, about 10 minutes' walk from the station; the address may have changed, so check it before you set off.
- Maharaja Bhog, Hamsah Mall, Al Karama: a North Indian thali, with puris.
- My Govinda's, City Tower: a sattvic kitchen that cooks without onion or garlic. That is close to Jain food but not the same; ask about potatoes and other root vegetables.
- AVATARA, Dubai Hills: the special-occasion table, a 16-course vegetarian tasting menu that Visit Dubai priced at AED 595 per person in 2024. The MICHELIN Guide lists its cuisine as Indian Vegetarian. Visit Dubai suggests going by taxi.
Visit Dubai's page for Vegetarian Room at Address Dubai Mall calls it the first pure-vegetarian restaurant from Address Hotels and Resorts, with paneer tikka, malai kofta, subz dum biryani and chaat. It is handy on your Burj Khalifa and Downtown day.
The hours and prices in that guide date from July 2024. Check with the restaurant before you build an evening around it.
Food on Dubai tours: served, on request, or not available
Our vegetarian-friendly things to do in Dubai page lists 12 experiences where vegetarian food is served or made on request. The facts come from each operator's and venue's own published information. They fall into three groups, and the group matters more than the price.
Vegetarian as standard
Vegetarian food is part of the standard menu or buffet. Where there are separate veg and non-veg options, you choose when you book.
- Dubai Creek Dhow Dinner Cruise, from ₹1,162 per person. Vegetarian dishes are always on the buffet; for Jain food, ask when you enquire and your captain confirms it with the operator before you pay. It is the cheapest dinner cruise we sell, and the gentlest: the Creek is flat and sheltered.
- Asha's at Wafi City, from ₹3,440. A sit-down Indian meal, vegetarian or non-vegetarian at the same price, at the restaurant that carries Asha Bhosle's name. Our page does not list the dishes, so your captain gets the menu before you pay. It is the one to book when the grandparents have had enough of eating on the move.
- Dubai Marina Afternoon Yacht Ride, from ₹2,815. About 1.3 hours, with a snack plate you choose by name: veg or non-veg. It is short and seated, so it suits young children and grandparents.
- Seven Paintings Immersive Dinner, from ₹11,358. Seven courses and a table-side show on the 30th floor of Sofitel Dubai Downtown, with a separate vegetarian menu. Neither the operator nor the venue mentions Jain food, so ask.
- Dinner in the Sky, from ₹21,877. Vegetarian dishes are marked on the set three-course menu. The operator changes the menu only for a group of 22 or more, so if anyone eats Jain food, your captain checks with the operator before you pay.
- Dubai Marina shared yacht cruises, from ₹5,616, and the Stardom superyacht from Dubai Harbour, from ₹10,730. Both operators list vegetarian options at the barbecue. Jain meals are not mentioned.
- The Dreams Boats floating cafe serves Arabic coffee, tea, dates, nuts and snacks rather than a meal, from ₹13,762 for a boat of up to six.
On request only
Vegetarian and Jain food can be made, but the operator has to be told in advance. This group includes the Dubai Evening Desert Safari (from ₹6,999), the Dubai Marina dhow dinner (from ₹2,999) and the private bespoke dinner for two.
No Jain meal
The Sky Walker shared yachts from Dubai Harbour, from ₹4,956, have a veg burger on the two-hour cruises and veg skewers on the sundowner, but no Jain meal on the menus. They work for a vegetarian family on the two-hour cruises (from ₹4,956) or the sundowner; for the three-hour and ride-and-slide options, ask your captain what the vegetarian dish is. A Jain family should pick another boat.
Prices are the starting prices on our site on 27 September 2026. GST and TCS are shown in your written quote.
What to expect on a desert safari
The evening camp dinner is a barbecue. Vegetarian and Jain meals there are made on request, and in practice that means at enquiry, not at the camp after dark.
Our multi-day Dubai trips all include a desert camp barbecue dinner: Dubai: Desert & Sky (5 days, from ₹48,999), Dubai Family Funfest (5 days, from ₹58,999) and the Dubai + Abu Dhabi Grand Twin (6 days, from ₹66,999). The same rule applies to all three, with vegetarian and Jain meals on request. Their inclusions list daily breakfast and that camp dinner; other meals are yours to choose, which leaves evenings free for Karama.
Creek or Marina: choosing a dhow cruise
For a vegetarian family, the Creek cruise is the simpler choice, because veg food there is standard rather than a request. Tea, coffee and water are included, and there is usually a tanoura dance on board. The lower deck is air-conditioned and the upper deck is open; choose the upper deck from November to March and the lower one in summer. A lower-deck ticket starts at ₹1,162, or ₹2,258 with a shared hotel transfer; the open upper deck is ₹1,411, or ₹2,573 with the transfer.
The Marina dhow gives you the towers lit up on both sides. Raise Jain, vegan and allergy needs when you book, not on the night.
How to ask for vegetarian or Jain food when you enquire
A trip captain can pass on only what you tell them, so make the request specific:
- Who eats what. "Four vegetarian adults, two of them Jain, and one vegetarian child" gets a better answer than "we are veg".
- What vegetarian means to you. Say whether egg is acceptable. For Jain travellers, say whether onion, garlic, potatoes and other root vegetables must be left out. The Emirates definitions above make a useful checklist.
- Which experiences. Name the safari, cruise or dinner, because the answer changes with the operator.
- Get it in writing. Your captain checks with the operator before you pay, and the food arrangement belongs in your written quote. If an operator cannot make a Jain meal, you hear it then, not at the table.
Send your dates and group from any experience page, on WhatsApp or through our contact page. A trip captain checks availability and sends a written quote.
Airline meal rules, restaurant hours and prices change. Everything above reflects the published position when we checked on 27 September 2026; confirm with the airline or restaurant before you travel.
FAQs
Dubai mein vegetarian khana milta hai?
Yes, easily. Bur Dubai and Al Karama, near BurJuman Metro station, have pure-vegetarian Indian restaurants, from unlimited thalis at around AED 30 per person (Visit Dubai's 2024 figure) to Gujarati and Rajasthani home-style food. Every Dubai experience on our vegetarian page serves vegetarian food or makes it on request.
Is Jain food available in Dubai?
Yes, but ask for it rather than assume it. Emirates offers a Vegetarian Jain Meal (VJML) if you book it at least 24 hours before the flight. In the city, My Govinda's is a sattvic kitchen that cooks without onion or garlic. That is close to Jain, but not the same, so ask about potatoes and other root vegetables. On tours, the Creek dhow cruise, the desert safari and the Marina dhow make Jain food on request; for Dinner in the Sky, your captain has to check with the operator first. The Sky Walker shared yachts do not offer a Jain meal.
Is the food on a Dubai desert safari vegetarian?
The camp dinner is a barbecue. On our evening safari, vegetarian and Jain meals are made on request, so tell your captain when you enquire rather than at the camp.
Which Dubai dhow cruise serves vegetarian food as standard?
The Dubai Creek dhow dinner cruise. Vegetarian dishes are always on its buffet; for Jain food, ask when you enquire and your captain confirms it with the operator before you pay. Tickets start at ₹1,162 per person. The Marina dhow has the skyline, but vegetarian food there has to be requested in advance.
