How to Apply for a Bali (Indonesia) Visa — Indian Passport, 2026

Bali is one of the simplest international trips to organise on an Indian passport — but "simple" still has rules worth knowing before you book flights. Here's the clean version.

The short answer

Indian passport holders are eligible for Indonesia's Visa on Arrival (VoA) for tourism. You can either buy it after you land, or pre-purchase it online as an e-VoA before you fly.

VoA or e-VoA?

• VoA on arrival — pay at the airport counter after landing. Nothing to arrange in advance, but you queue twice: once for the visa, once for immigration.
• e-VoA online — apply and pay on the official portal before you fly, then use the faster lane on arrival. Worth it in peak season.

Both are typically valid for 30 days and can usually be extended once by a further 30 days. Either way it's a tourist permission — not a work permit.

What you'll need

1. Passport valid at least 6 months from your date of arrival.
2. A confirmed onward or return ticket.
3. Proof of accommodation for your stay.
4. A payment card for the fee (budget roughly IDR 500,000 — confirm the current amount).
5. For e-VoA: a passport scan and a recent photo.

The steps (e-VoA)

1. Create an account on the official Indonesian immigration e-visa site — check the URL carefully, look-alike agent sites are common.
2. Upload your passport bio page and photo.
3. Pay the fee online with an international card.
4. Receive the e-VoA by email, usually within a few working days. Carry a printout.
5. On arrival, use the e-VoA lane and complete the customs declaration.

Don't forget the customs declaration

Indonesia uses an electronic customs declaration you fill shortly before landing, which gives you a QR code to show on arrival. Do it on the plane or in the arrivals hall — it takes two minutes and you can't skip it.

What trips people up

• Passport under 6 months validity. The single most common reason people get stopped at check-in.
• No onward ticket. Airlines check this at boarding, not just immigration.
• Overstaying. Indonesia charges a per-day fine and enforces it. Extend in time, or fly out.
• Assuming it covers work. Remote work on a tourist VoA isn't permitted.

Any agent promising a "guaranteed instant Indonesia visa" for a large fee is selling you something you can do yourself on the official portal.
