How much does a Rann of Kutch trip from Ahmedabad cost?

Our Rann of Kutch: The White Desert trip is from ₹12,999 per person for 3 days and 2 nights. The trip is private, so it runs on your dates rather than a fixed group departure. Here is what a family or group pays, before GST.

Who is travellingTotal from
Couple₹25,998
Three adults (a couple and one parent)₹38,997
Four adults₹51,996
Six adults₹77,994

Children's prices depend on age and bedding, so we price them in your quote. The Rann Utsav Tent City at Dhordo sells its own stays; our trip uses a hotel in Bhuj for the first night and a traditional bhunga at Dhordo for the second.

What you pay on the day

  • Lunches, which you choose along the route.
  • Camel cart or ATV rides on the Rann, paid directly to the operators.
  • Ajrakh block prints, Rogan art, copper bells or other crafts from the villages.

When is Rann Utsav 2026–27, and when is the white desert at its best?

The Rann Utsav Tent City at Dhordo runs from 1 Nov 2026 to 7 Mar 2027, according to its website (rannutsav.com, checked October 2026), which describes the Tent City as an official property endorsed by Gujarat Tourism. Travel Trade Journal reported the same dates on 22 Jul 2026.

On our trip, the Rann is at its best from November to February, when the salt is dry and white. In the monsoon the Rann floods and the salt disappears, so it is not a summer or rainy-season trip. December and January nights in the desert are cold, so carry a proper jacket, not just a shawl.

Which full-moon nights fall in the Rann season?

A full moon turns the white salt silver after dark, and it is the night most people plan around. These are the full moons of the 2026–27 season from NASA's moon phase tables (checked October 2026), converted to Indian time.

Full moonTime in IndiaNight to be on the salt
24 Nov 20268:23 pm24 Nov (or 23 Nov)
24 Dec 20266:58 am23 Dec
22 Jan 20275:47 pm22 Jan (or 21 Jan)
21 Feb 20274:53 am20 Feb

The nights either side of a full moon are nearly as bright. On our trip the Dhordo night is the second night, so for a 24 Nov full moon you would leave Ahmedabad on 23 Nov. Tell us the full moon you want and we time the trip around it.

What does a 3-day Kutch plan look like?

Gujarat Tourism puts Bhuj about 335 km from Ahmedabad, roughly 7 hours by road, and the Rann about 85 km from Bhuj (gujarattourism.com, checked October 2026). Our plan splits that drive so no single day is too long.

DayPlanNight
Day 1Morning drive from Ahmedabad across the Little Rann to Bhuj; Aina Mahal and the Prag Mahal bell tower in the old townBhuj hotel
Day 2Ajrakhpur for block printing and Nirona for Rogan art and copper bells; late afternoon to Dhordo for sunset on the salt, dinner and moonriseBhunga at Dhordo
Day 3An early climb to Kalo Dungar, the highest point in Kutch, for the view over the Rann; drive back to Ahmedabad by eveningHome

The Kutchi thali on the trip is cooked over a wood fire and eaten sitting on the floor. If anyone in the family eats Jain food, or can't sit on the floor, tell us at enquiry and we arrange it with the kitchen.

Do you need a permit for the White Rann?

Yes. The White Rann is a border area and permits are checked, so every traveller carries a government photo ID. Our trip includes the Rann permit and White Rann entry, so you only need to send us ID details before you travel.

If you are going on your own, the Gujarat government's White Rann permit portal (rannpermit.gujarat.gov.in, checked October 2026) lets Indian nationals book the permit online instead of queuing at the Bhirandiyara checkpost. The main traveller uploads an ID proof. The portal's fee table lists ₹100 per person over 12, ₹50 for children aged 6 to 12 and free entry for children up to 5; check the current charges on the portal before you pay.

Is the trip comfortable for elderly parents and children?

Mostly, yes. The trip is gentle sightseeing in an AC vehicle, a walk onto flat salt ground and one early climb up Kalo Dungar hill, which a parent can skip and wait in the vehicle. The longest stretch is the Ahmedabad to Bhuj drive on the first day, and we stop on the way.

A few things help with older parents and small children:

  • Carry warm layers for the evening on the salt, and a cap and sunscreen for the day.
  • The bhunga night is simple and traditional; tell us if a parent needs a western toilet and we confirm it before you book.
  • Children enjoy the camel cart on the salt and the craft villages, where they can watch block printing being done by hand.

Can you add Gir, Somnath or the Statue of Unity?

Yes. Each of these trips starts and ends in Ahmedabad, so you can do them on separate weekends or ask us to join two into one route.

TripLengthFrom (per person)What it adds
Rann of Kutch: The White Desert3 days, 2 nights₹12,999The White Rann, Bhuj and the craft villages
Statue of Unity & the Narmada2 days, 1 night₹8,999The 153 m viewing gallery, the Jungle Safari Park and the laser show
Gir: The Asiatic Lion Safari3 days, 2 nights₹16,999Two jeep safaris with permits, and a Somnath temple visit
Somnath & Dwarka: The Coastal Temples4 days, 3 nights₹18,999Somnath aarti, Dwarkadhish and Bet Dwarka by boat, with pure vegetarian meals

Done back to back, the Rann and Gir trips come to ₹29,998 per person for 4 nights. Note that Gir Jungle Safari is closed from 16 June to 15 October every year (girlion.gujarat.gov.in, checked October 2026), so the Rann season and the Gir season overlap well from November to February.
