• Manali and Solang, Himachal: snow on the higher slopes, though Shimla town rarely gets it this early.
• Rann of Kutch, Gujarat: Rann Utsav is on, and the full moon falls on the night of 23–24 Dec.
• Udaipur and Jaisalmer: dry days around 25°C and cold nights.
• Goa: Christmas and New Year with almost no rain.
• Kerala: houseboats and tea hills, usually with less rain than November.
• Andaman Islands: much drier than November, and good for a honeymoon.

Two long weekends help: Christmas Day is on Friday 25 Dec 2026 (central government holiday list), and New Year's Day falls on Friday 1 Jan 2027 if your workplace closes that day.

Where should you go in December with family?

Pick places with short transfers and no altitude. The Rann of Kutch is the easiest from Ahmedabad: the official Rann Utsav site lists the season from 1 Nov 2026 to 7 Mar 2027, and NASA's tables put the full moon at 6:58 am IST on 24 Dec, so the nights of 23 and 24 Dec are both near-full. For a beach, South Goa is calmer than the north. IMD's Panaji averages for December are 21°C at night, 33°C by day and just 2.5 mm of rain. Where should you go in December with kids?

Children do best with animals, sand and short days. Where should you go in December for a honeymoon?

Kashmir in snow is the classic. For the sea, the Andamans are much drier in December: IMD's Port Blair averages fall to 103 mm of rain over 4 to 5 days, from 242 mm in November. Where can you see snowfall in India in December?

Gulmarg is the most reliable. IMD's 1991–2020 averages give it −4.8°C at night and 4.6°C by day in December, and snow arrived early in 2025: the upper reaches, including Kongdori, had their first snow on 6 Oct (All India Radio) and Gulmarg recorded 7.6 cm on 4 Nov (ETV Bharat). In Himachal, early-December snow in Shimla is rare: when it came in early December 2024, locals told The Tribune they could not recall it happening since the 1990s. In mid-December 2025, Rohtang and the Manali area had moderate to heavy snow while Shimla had 0–3°C nights and fog (Outlook India). Where should you go in December with senior citizens?

Choose low altitude, level walking, vegetarian food and short drives. Udaipur suits parents too (most days are gentle walking and a boat ride, though old-town lanes have steps), as does the Statue of Unity, where the gallery is reached by lift.
