Rann of Kutch: The White Desert
Kutch & Bhuj, Gujarat
Highlights
- The White Rann at moonrise — salt flats to the horizon
- A night in a traditional bhunga mud-and-mirror tent at Dhordo
- Ajrakhpur and Nirona: block-printing, Rogan art, copper bells
- Kalo Dungar sunset — the highest point in Kutch
- Kutchi thali cooked over a wood fire, eaten sitting on the floor
The story
There is no view in India quite like standing on the Great Rann at full moon. The salt goes flat and white in every direction until it stops being landscape and starts being weather.
You drive out from Ahmedabad, sleep in a bhunga tent at Dhordo, and walk out onto the crust as the light goes. Days are for Kutchi craft villages — Ajrakh block-printing, Rabari mirror-work, bell-metal — bought from the people who actually make it.
Itinerary
-
Morning drive west across the Little Rann. Check in, then Bhuj old town — Aina Mahal and the Prag Mahal bell tower before it closes.
-
Ajrakhpur for block-printing, Nirona for Rogan art and copper bells. Late afternoon out to Dhordo. Sunset on the salt, dinner under the tents, moonrise on the flats.
-
Early climb to Kalo Dungar for the view over the whole Rann, then the drive back to Ahmedabad by evening.
We'll WhatsApp you the full day-by-day itinerary — free, no calls unless you ask.
