When is Diwali 2026, and which days are holidays?

Central dates: the 2026 list for central government offices in Gujarat (Regional Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Gandhinagar, December 2025). State dates: the Gujarat General Administration Department's 2026 notification, as reported by Sakshi Post. Dhanteras follows the panchang. Your employer's list is the one that counts.

How many leave days do you need for a Diwali trip?

Using the Gujarat state calendar and a Monday-to-Friday week:

A five-day break fits a 4D/3N or 5D/4N trip; nine days fits 6D/5N or 7D/6N. If you want Lakshmi Puja at home, the six-day window from Tuesday 10 Nov still works. If you work Saturdays, or at a central government office, count again with your own list.

Will flights cost more over Diwali?

Yes. In October 2024, Gulf News reported Diwali-week fares up to 50 per cent higher on some UAE to India routes. Most of our international trips include return flights from Ahmedabad; the price on each trip page is a starting price, and the fare for your dates, usually higher in festival weeks, is confirmed in your written quote. Asking now rather than in early November gives you more flights to choose from.

Where can you go abroad over Diwali 2026?

1. Dubai: a short flight and a city that marks Diwali

Dubai: Desert & Sky is 5D/4N from ₹48,999 per person, with return flights from Ahmedabad, a 4-star hotel with breakfast, the desert safari with a camp BBQ dinner, Burj Khalifa level 124 entry and the UAE visa in the price. It fits the five-day break from Sat 7 to Wed 11 Nov.

What to expect: Dubai has held official Diwali fireworks in recent years. In 2025 they were at Souk Al Seef and Global Village in the second half of October, when Diwali fell (Khaleej Times, October 2025). The 2026 programme had not been announced when we checked on 12 Oct 2026, so we are not promising a show. Global Village opens its new season on 14 Oct 2026 (Khaleej Times), so it will be open in Diwali week. 2. Singapore: Deepavali is a public holiday

Singapore: City of Icons is 4D/3N from ₹51,999 per person, with return flights from Ahmedabad, a 4-star city hotel with breakfast, the listed attraction tickets and the Singapore visa handled by us. Indian passport holders need a visa for Singapore (ICA, checked October 2026), so send us passport details early.

What to expect: Deepavali is a public holiday on Sunday 8 Nov 2026, and Monday 9 Nov is a holiday for workers whose rest day falls on that Sunday (Ministry of Manpower). Little India's street light-up began with a ceremony on 3 Oct, and the Festival Village on Campbell Lane runs until 8 Nov (deepavali.sg, the Little India organisers' site). 3. Thailand: Bangkok and Pattaya rather than the islands

Bangkok & Pattaya: City of Lights is 5D/4N from ₹36,999 per person, with return flights from Ahmedabad, 4-star stays with breakfast and transfers.

What to expect: the Thai Meteorological Department's outlook (issued 20 Aug 2026) expects cool weather and much less rain across upper Thailand in November, forecasting 50 to 90 mm over 5 to 8 rainy days for Bangkok and the same for the east, where Pattaya is. Southern Thailand stays wet: it forecasts 171 to 210 mm over 15 to 18 rainy days on the west coast, where Phuket and Krabi are. That is why we suggest Bangkok and Pattaya for Diwali week. 4. Sri Lanka: Deepavali is a holiday there too

Sri Lanka Quick Weekender is 4D/3N from ₹38,999 per person: Colombo, Galle Fort and a beach day at Unawatuna, with return flights from Ahmedabad and stays with breakfast.

What to expect: Deepavali on 8 Nov is on Sri Lanka's 2026 list of public holidays (Ada Derana, reporting the government calendar). Indian travellers still apply for an ETA online. The fee has been waived for Indians under a six-month programme announced in April 2026 (All India Radio News), so check eta.gov.lk before you fly.

5. Vietnam: go north, and skip Hoi An this month

Vietnam: Ha Long Awakening is 6D/5N from ₹54,999 per person: Hanoi, a night on a Ha Long Bay cruise, return flights from Ahmedabad and the Vietnam e-visa handled by us. It needs the nine-day break.

What to expect: October and November bring floods to central Vietnam. In 2025, VnExpress reported Hoi An's old town flooded three times in three weeks, the last on 18 November. We would not book Da Nang and Hoi An for Diwali week; we would choose Hanoi and Ha Long, or Saigon and the Mekong, instead.

6. Rann of Kutch: the closest and the lowest-priced

Rann of Kutch: The White Desert is 3D/2N from ₹12,999 per person, with return AC transport from Ahmedabad, one night in Bhuj and one in a bhunga at Dhordo, breakfasts and dinners, and the Rann permit. With one day of leave it fits Sat 7 to Mon 9 Nov, with no flights to book.

What to expect: the Rann Utsav tent city season runs from 1 Nov 2026 to 7 Mar 2027 (rannutsav.com), so Diwali week is inside it; book early if you want those dates. Diwali is a new-moon night, so the Rann is dark that week. If you want the salt under a full moon, go around Dev Diwali (Kartik Purnima) on 24 Nov. 7. Udaipur: palaces lit for Diwali

Udaipur: The Lake City is 4D/3N from ₹39,999 per person, with three nights in a lake-facing room with breakfast, a car and driver, City Palace entry and the Jag Mandir boat. Flights are not in this price, so tell us whether you want to fly or drive from Ahmedabad.

8. Goa: Narakasur night

Goa Heritage & Susegad is 4D/3N from ₹15,999 per person, with stays with breakfast, transfers and the listed experiences; whether return flights or AC transport are included depends on the package, and your quote confirms it.

What to expect: Goa marks Naraka Chaturdashi by burning large Narakasur effigies, built by neighbourhood groups and often judged in local competitions, from around midnight to dawn (Outlook Traveller and Gomantak Times, October 2024). The central government lists Naraka Chaturdashi on Sunday 8 Nov this year, so expect the effigies on the night of 7 to 8 Nov; ask locally for times.
