The story

Yas Island is in Abu Dhabi, not Dubai, and its parks sit a short free shuttle ride apart. This is the parks' own one-day, two-park ticket: one of the two parks is always Yas Waterworld, the outdoor water park, and the second is your choice of Warner Bros. World, Ferrari World or SeaWorld Yas Island, all three indoors and air-conditioned. The operator lists it under Warner Bros. World, but the ticket itself lets you choose the second park. You can travel on your own, or take the private-transfer option from your Dubai hotel.

What it feels like: a long drive from Dubai, then the water park first, while you still have the energy for the slides and before the afternoon sun is at its hottest. By lunchtime everyone is sunburnt at the edges and ready for air-conditioning, and walking into Warner Bros. World is like stepping into a cold cinema lobby that goes on for streets: cartoon-set towns, characters children already know from television, and rides built around them. Ferrari World and SeaWorld are the other two choices for the second park. You get back to Dubai late and tired, with wet swimwear in a bag.

Who this suits: the school-holiday family and the family with teenagers, who get a water park and a theme park out of one day on Yas Island instead of two; and friends groups who want both the slides and the rides. The multigenerational group should think twice: it is a long, hot, busy day, and grandparents may be happier with a single indoor park.
