The story

Expo City Dubai is the district that stayed behind after Expo 2020, and several of its pavilions are now permanent attractions. Two tickets are offered here. The Terra and Vision combo covers Terra, the sustainability pavilion, where Expo City describes a walk that takes you beneath a forest floor and into the ocean to rethink how you live with the planet, and the Vision Pavilion, which tells Dubai's own story from desert settlements to the modern city. The Attractions Pass adds Alif, the mobility pavilion, which follows travel and invention across centuries, from early Arab achievements to the Emirates Mars Mission; the Dubai Pass listing on visitdubai.com names the Women's Pavilion and the Stories of Nations exhibition on the same pass.

What it feels like: it is a museum day more than a theme-park day. You walk out of the heat into large, cool halls where the exhibits are immersive, built to be walked through rather than read. Terra alone takes about two hours by Expo City's own estimate. Between pavilions you cross the open public spaces built for the Expo. Families from Ahmedabad who liked Science City will recognise the idea.

Who this suits: the school-holiday family with school-age children, who get the most from Terra and Alif; the multigenerational group and active seniors, because the pavilions are indoors and Expo City lists them as accessible and family friendly; and the couple's escape on a slower day. Younger children tire of it faster; Terra has a children's play area. Friends groups looking for rides should book a theme park instead.
