The story

Madame Tussauds Dubai is on Bluewaters, the small island off JBR beach that also carries the Ain Dubai wheel. Inside are more than 70 wax figures, by the attraction's own count, arranged in zones: the A-List music party, film, fashion, sport, world leaders, and a Bollywood and Tollywood zone where Shah Rukh Khan is waiting. There are more than ten interactive corners, from a catwalk and a sports zone to a Bollywood dance floor, an Allu Arjun dance experience and a stand where you can have your own hand cast in wax. You walk through at your own pace, and the whole point is the photograph.

What it feels like: the first figure fools you. You glance at someone standing by a doorway, look again, and realise nobody is that still. After that it becomes a game, especially for teenagers, of getting the pose right: an arm round a film star, a straight face beside a head of state, a dance step next to a Tollywood hero. Save time for the Bollywood and Tollywood zone if you have film fans in the group. The whole visit is indoors, so it works on a hot afternoon, and Bluewaters outside has a promenade and restaurants for afterwards.

Who this suits: the school-holiday family and families with teenagers, who get the most out of the poses; the friends group and the ladies-only group, for the selfies; and the multigenerational family, since it is indoors, flat and at your own pace, and the attraction says it is stroller-accessible. Seniors who are not film fans may find an hour enough.
