The story
This is a one-hour cruise on a shared yacht run by Xclusive Yachts from their own berth, Xclusive Marina, behind Al Majara Towers in Dubai Marina. By the operator's own page the boat is a 65-foot catamaran or an 86-foot yacht (or one of similar size, depending on the day), shared with other guests. You are free to move between the upper and lower decks; the lower deck is air-conditioned. The route takes in the Dubai Marina skyline, JBR and Ain Dubai, with an audio guide rather than a guide on board, and chilled water is served.
What it feels like: you take your shoes off at the gangway, which the operator asks of everyone, and within minutes the Marina's towers are rising on both sides of the channel, much taller from the water than from the promenade. Out towards JBR the breeze picks up and the beachfront opens out, with the great wheel of Ain Dubai standing over the water. You will probably spend most of the hour on the top deck with your phone out, and the last few minutes in the cool of the lower deck. It is short and easy, a first look at this side of the city, and it fits between a beach morning and an evening out.
Who this suits: the school-holiday family and the family with toddlers, since the operator calls it kids friendly and fits life jackets on young children; couples on an anniversary or honeymoon trip who want the skyline without a long evening; friends groups who want an hour on a yacht without renting one; and budget and value travellers, because one person pays one fare. The multigenerational group should read the note on steps and footwear below before booking. Alcohol is not allowed on board.
