The story
The Dubai Frame is exactly what it sounds like: two 150-metre towers joined by a bridge across the top, clad in gold, standing in a park between the old city and the new. It was built so that from one side you look through it at Deira and the Creek, and from the other at the towers of Sheikh Zayed Road. The visit takes about an hour and it is a good first-morning stop, because it explains the city's shape before you go and see the rest of it.
You start in the gallery at the base, which walks you through Dubai as a pearling and trading town with projections and reconstructed souk scenes. A lift takes you up one tower to the sky deck, a 93-metre walkway across the top with floor-to-ceiling glass on both sides and a strip of glass floor down the middle that turns clear as you step on it, with the park a long way beneath your shoes. Children dare each other across it; grandparents keep to the edges and enjoy the view just as much. You come down the other tower through the future gallery, which is the museum's guess at the city in 2050.
Who it suits: families (children under 3 enter free, and the glass floor is the highlight for the 6-to-14 age group), seniors (lifts throughout, benches on the deck, an hour at most), and couples who want an inexpensive morning with a view. It is a modest ticket, so it pairs well with something bigger in the afternoon.
What your ticket covers
