The story

Dubai Dolphinarium is an indoor show arena inside Creek Park, entered at Gate 1 on Umm Hurair 2 Street, about ten minutes from the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall and the Dubai Frame. Its Dolphin and Seal Show runs for 45 minutes, at 2 pm and 6 pm every day except Tuesday: bottlenose dolphins and sea lions leap, flip and splash through a programme that mixes acrobatics with a little about marine life and the animals' behaviour. The operator sells two kinds of seat. A regular seat is first come, first served within the arena; a VIP seat lets you choose your seat number in advance, subject to availability. Each comes as a ticket only, with a shared transfer, or with a private transfer from your hotel.

What it feels like: you file into a big, cool arena out of the afternoon heat, children pulling for seats near the water. Then the dolphins arrive at speed, the first leap draws a gasp from the whole room, and the splashing starts. The sea lions bring the comedy. Forty-five minutes suits a small child's attention span. Afterwards the dolphinarium offers a photo with a dolphin, booked on the spot, and Creek Park is outside the door for a walk once the day cools.

What happens at the show

Show times and doors open are confirmed for your date.

  1. On the transfer options a vehicle collects you from your Dubai hotel and brings you to Creek Park Gate 1; the shared vehicle may collect other guests. On the ticket-only options you make your own way; there is free parking at the dolphinarium, first come first served. Arrive at least 45 minutes before the show.

  2. Dubai Municipality charges a separate Creek Park entry fee at the gate. Your captain confirms whether the operator's ticket covers it.

  3. Take your seat: any free regular seat, or the VIP seat you chose. Dolphins and sea lions perform for 45 minutes. A photo with a dolphin can be booked after the show at extra cost.
