Georgia Visa for Indians 2026: e-Visa or Visa-Free Route

Indians with an ordinary passport need a visa for Georgia, unless they hold a valid visa or residence permit from a listed country such as the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Japan, the UAE or an EU state, which allows a visa-free stay of 90 days in any 180 (Georgian Government Ordinance 256, checked October 2026). Everyone else applies online for an e-visa at evisa.gov.ge for USD 20 plus a 2% service fee, and our Georgia trips from Ahmedabad start at ₹49,999 per person for four days (prices checked 16 Oct 2026).
Our Georgia trips list return flights from Ahmedabad, stays with daily breakfast, transfers, the listed experiences, a trip captain and visa handling where it applies. GST and TCS are shown in your written quote.
Prices checked 16 Oct 2026 from our live trip pages. Visa rules checked with the Georgian National Tourism Administration (georgia.travel), Government Ordinance 256 on matsne.gov.ge and the e-visa portal's FAQ in October 2026.
Do Indians need a visa for Georgia?
Yes, on an ordinary passport. The Georgian National Tourism Administration's site lists India only among countries whose diplomatic and official passport holders may enter without a visa; citizens of all other countries not on its visa-free list need an appropriate visa (georgia.travel, checked October 2026). There are two routes for an Indian ordinary passport:
| Your situation | What you need | Stay allowed |
|---|---|---|
| You hold a valid visa or residence permit from a country on the Ordinance 256 list | No Georgian visa; you enter on that visa or permit | 90 days in any 180-day period |
| You don't | A Georgian e-visa from evisa.gov.ge | Shown on the portal once you select India |
Which visas or residence permits let Indians enter Georgia without a visa?
Georgian Government Ordinance No 256 of 5 June 2015 says that foreigners holding a visa or residence permit of a listed country may enter and stay in Georgia without a visa for 90 calendar days in any 180-day period. Its second note adds that the visa or permit must be valid on the day you enter Georgia (matsne.gov.ge, checked October 2026). The annex lists 50 entries:
| Region | Countries on the list (visa or residence permit) |
|---|---|
| Americas and Oceania | United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand |
| Gulf | United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain |
| Asia | Japan, South Korea, Israel |
| Europe | United Kingdom, every EU member state, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein |
The list also covers some territories of the UK, Denmark, the Netherlands and France. This route matters for Indian families living in the Gulf: a valid UAE, Saudi, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman or Bahrain residence permit is on the list.
One caution. The Ordinance was amended on 17 Apr 2025 by Ordinance No 122, and the consolidated text we could read is the earlier version. Before booking, confirm that your visa or permit's country is still on the list, either with the Georgian embassy or consulate that serves you or with us when we quote.
What counts on the day
- The visa or permit has to be valid on the day you land, not just on the day you book.
- An expired US or UK visa does not count, even if you used it recently.
- Carry the passport that holds the visa, or your residence card, through immigration.
How do you apply for the Georgia e-visa?
If you don't qualify for the visa-free route, apply online at evisa.gov.ge. The site's terms differ by passport country, so select India first to see the stay length and conditions that apply to you.
- Check your passport: valid for at least three months beyond the visa's validity, with two blank pages, issued within the last ten years.
- Gather the documents listed in the next section, including insurance and hotel bookings for every night.
- Fill in the application on evisa.gov.ge and attach the documents.
- Pay the USD 20 fee plus the 2% service fee on the same site.
- Wait for the decision before you pay for non-refundable flights.
Our Georgia trip pages note that the e-visa or visa-free route depends on nationality and that we confirm it on booking. When you need the e-visa, we give you the hotel confirmations and day-by-day plan the application asks for.
How much does the e-visa cost, and how long does it take?
| Item | What the official sources say |
|---|---|
| E-visa fee | USD 20 plus a 2% service fee (evisa.gov.ge FAQ) |
| Processing time | Not less than 5 working days (evisa.gov.ge FAQ); a decision within 5 to 30 calendar days depending on the visa category (georgia.travel) |
| Visa-holder route | No Georgian visa fee; your other visa or permit must be valid on entry |
In practice, apply at least a month before you fly. A long-weekend trip booked at short notice suits the visa-holder route better than the e-visa.
These are our Georgia trips, per person, with return flights from Ahmedabad:

| Georgia Wine Trail: Kakheti | 5 days, 4 nights | ₹64,999 | Qvevri cellars, Sighnaghi, Bodbe and Alaverdi monasteries and a vineyard night |

Which documents does the e-visa ask for?
The e-visa portal's FAQ lists these (evisa.gov.ge, checked October 2026):
- Passport: valid at least three months beyond the visa's validity, with two blank pages, issued within the last ten years.
- Photo: taken within six months, facing the camera.
- Insurance: travel or health insurance valid across Georgia for your stay.
- Accommodation: a hotel booking for your stay.
- Purpose: proof of why you are travelling; for a holiday, your itinerary and bookings.
- Funds: a bank statement for the past three months, an employer reference with your position and income, proof of property, or a sponsor letter.
Travel insurance is not included in our trip prices, so buy a policy that covers all of Georgia for your dates before you apply. If a parent is retired, the person paying can write a sponsor letter instead: dated and signed, with their name, address and contact details, the relationship, the destination and length of stay, and the costs they cover.
How long can you stay in Georgia?
On the visa-holder route, Ordinance 256 allows 90 days in any 180-day period. On the e-visa, the stay depends on your passport country, and the portal shows it once you select India, so check it there before booking. All our Georgia trips, at four to six days, fit inside either.
Planning the trip around your family
- Elderly parents: the Kakheti wine trail is the easiest, with cellar visits, long seated lunches and easy walking. The Tbilisi trips have cobbled lanes, and the Kazbegi day uses four-wheel drive to reach the church.
- Children: the wine days suit teenagers better than young children, while the Gudauri ski school is built for first-timers on wide, gentle slopes.
- Food: for vegetarian and Jain meals, tell us when you enquire and your trip captain checks each included meal. Carry some lari in cash for villages.
- Winter: the mountain road to Kazbegi can close in heavy snow, and we keep a plan B.
