What we work through with you
Your dates and priorities
Tell us when you want to visit Ha Long Bay & Hoi An, who is travelling and what you would change in the outline below.
The route and pace
We discuss the 7D / 6N starting itinerary, your preferred stays and how much you want to fit in. Any changes depend on availability and are agreed in your written plan.
Your written quote
Review the final arrangements, total price, inclusions and payment and cancellation terms before booking. An enquiry does not reserve this trip.
The route we start from
These are the stages published for this package. A stage can cover part of a day or several days; it is not a separate travel day.
- Stage 01
Days 1–2 — Hanoi
Arrive into Hanoi and stay in the old quarter, thirty-six streets that were named for the trade once carried on in each and largely still are. Egg coffee, which is yolk whipped with condensed milk over strong coffee and much better than it sounds. The train street runs between houses with inches to spare and access to it comes and goes with the current rules, so we check on the day.
- Stage 02
Days 3–4 — Ha Long
Transfer to Ha Long, about two and a half hours on the expressway, and board the junk. The bay is around 1,600 limestone islands going out to the horizon, and the difference between a day trip and an overnight is that the day boats leave at four and the bay becomes another place entirely. Kayaking, a cave, dinner on deck, and tai chi at sunrise if you are up for it before returning to Hanoi.
- Stage 03
Days 5–6 — Hoi An
Fly to Da Nang and drive down the coast to Hoi An, a trading port that has been preserved almost entirely intact because the river silted up and the money went elsewhere. Tailors will make a garment in about 24 hours from a fitting on the first evening. A cooking class starts in the market, and after dark the old town runs on silk lanterns and paper boats set on the river.
- Stage 04
Day 7 — Home
A last Hoi An morning, then Da Nang for the flight home. Seven days, one night on a wooden boat among limestone islands, one town lit entirely by lanterns, and at least one item of clothing that fits better than anything you own.
