From the operator's and venue's own published information. Tell your captain about anyone's mobility, age or food needs and we confirm the details for your date.

The story

Singapore hawker culture is on the UNESCO list, and the food is the reason to come to the city rather than a thing you do between attractions.

You eat six things across two centres — chicken rice, laksa, char kway teow, satay, kaya toast and something the guide argues about. The stalls with the longest queues are usually right.

What happens

The plan as the operator runs it. Start times and pickup are confirmed for your date.

  1. Three hours and six dishes across two hawker centres with a guide whose actual job is knowing which of four identical-looking stalls has the queue for a reason. Starting at Chinatown Complex, a large market and food centre, then walking to Maxwell or Tiong Bahru depending on the day and what is shut. Expect the classics done properly: Hainanese chicken rice, char kway teow, satay, carrot cake, which is radish and not carrot, and laksa. The genuinely useful part is the method rather than the food: how to chope a table with a packet of tissues, how ordering and paying works stall by stall, and what to ask for. Kopi and kaya toast to finish.
