Singapore's real monuments have plastic stools. This weekend is a guided eating spree through the republic's hawker canon: Maxwell's chicken rice, Lau Pa Sat's satay street, Katong laksa, Little India's dosai, and the cheapest Michelin star on earth.

  1. Land and eat immediately. Maxwell Food Centre for lunch, which is where the Hainanese chicken rice argument starts, then a walk through Chinatown's shophouse streets to settle it. In the evening, Lau Pa Sat: a Victorian cast-iron market hall where the satay stalls take over the street outside after seven.

  2. East to Katong in the morning for laksa and the Peranakan shophouses, which are painted in colours nobody would dare use now. Little India in the afternoon for banana-leaf lunch and the smell of the spice shops. Chilli crab by the bay to finish, which is messy, communal and non-negotiable.

  3. Kaya toast, soft-boiled eggs and kopi for breakfast, done properly at an old coffee shop rather than a chain. Then Jewel at Changi on the way out. Forty-eight hours, somewhere around a dozen stalls, and a permanent inability to accept airport food again.

If we ever have to cancel your trip ourselves, you choose a full refund or a free date change.

Refund policy

Full refund if you cancel within 48 hours of booking and 30+ days before departure.

Refunds are processed to the original payment method within 7 working days of approval.

Cancellation policy

30+ days before departure: lose only the deposit.

15–29 days: 50% of the package cost.

7–14 days: 75% of the package cost.

Under 7 days or no-show: no refund.

One free date-change to a later departure is allowed up to 15 days out.
