Vietnam Visa for Indians: Fees, Documents & Process (2026)

Vietnam is one of the easier visas an Indian passport holder can get. It is done entirely online, it costs about the same as a decent dinner, and in normal conditions it is processed in a few working days, which is a target, not a promise. There is no interview, no appointment and no need to hand over your passport.
The confusion is not the process — it is the websites. Search for a Vietnam visa and you will find dozens of agent sites that look official, charge three or four times the real fee, and are not run by the Vietnamese government. This guide walks through the actual process on the actual portal.
The official websites
evisa.gov.vn and thithucdientu.gov.vn — the two addresses of the Vietnam Immigration Department's e-visa portal since 11 Nov 2024, by the department's own notice, which the Vietnam Embassy in New Delhi repeats.
A site that is not the government's portal is usually an agent. Agents are not illegal and some are genuinely useful if you want the paperwork handled, but you should know you are paying a markup on a form you could fill in yourself in about fifteen minutes.
Check the address bar before you pay. Sites ending in .com or .net with names like "vietnam-visa-online" are not the government.
What it costs
- Single entry — USD 25
- Multiple entry — USD 50
Paid by international card at the end of the application. The fee is non-refundable, including if your application is refused, so check every field before you submit.
What you get
- Validity of up to 90 days
- Single or multiple entry, whichever you paid for
- Processing in about 3 to 5 working days in normal conditions, a target rather than a promise
Apply at least two to three weeks before you fly. It usually comes back faster, but building in slack costs nothing and panicking does.
What you need before you start
- A passport valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date, with two blank pages
- A scan of the passport data page — clear, all four corners visible, no glare
- A passport-style photograph, plain background, no glasses
- Your intended date of entry
- The checkpoint where you plan to enter, see below
- The address of your first accommodation in Vietnam
- An international debit or credit card
Your entry checkpoint
The form asks where you plan to enter Vietnam. The Vietnam Embassy in New Delhi's visa FAQ says your actual entry checkpoint does not have to match the one on the application, as long as it is one of the checkpoints that accept e-visas; the current list is on the official portal. What must match is everything else: your name and passport, the dates your e-visa is valid for, and single or multiple entry. Booking flights first still helps, because it settles your dates.
The common ones:
- Noi Bai International Airport — Hanoi, and the gateway for Ha Long Bay and Sapa
- Tan Son Nhat International Airport — Ho Chi Minh City, for the south and the Mekong
- Da Nang International Airport — for Hoi An and the central coast
How to apply
- Go to evisa.gov.vn and choose the e-visa application for foreign nationals
- Upload your passport data page and photograph
- Fill in your personal details exactly as printed in your passport — spelling, order of names, everything
- Enter your travel dates, the checkpoint where you plan to enter and your first accommodation address
- Choose single or multiple entry
- Pay by card and save the registration code you are given: you need it to check and print the e-visa
- Check the result on the portal's search page (evisa.gov.vn/e-visa/search) with your registration code, email and date of birth (the embassy's FAQ says no email is sent with the result), then print the approved e-visa
Carry the printout. Immigration officers ask for paper more often than you would expect, and phone batteries die.
Why applications get refused
Most refusals are clerical rather than substantive:
- A name that does not match the passport exactly, including middle names
- A blurred or cropped passport scan
- A photograph with a patterned background, or wearing glasses
- A passport with under six months of validity left
- Travel dates that do not line up with the entry date declared
None of these are hard to avoid. All of them cost you the fee.
FAQs
Do Indians need a visa for Vietnam?
Yes. Indian passport holders need a visa to enter Vietnam. The e-visa is applied for online at evisa.gov.vn, costs USD 25 for single entry, and is valid for up to 90 days.
How long does a Vietnam e-visa take for Indians?
Normally 3 to 5 working days, but that is a target, not a promise. Apply two to three weeks before departure so a delay or a correction does not affect your flights, and check the result on the portal with your registration code.
Can I get a Vietnam visa on arrival?
Do not plan around it. The e-visa is the standard route for Indian tourists and is straightforward. Visa-on-arrival arrangements involve a pre-approval letter through an agent and are more complicated, not less.
How much is a Vietnam visa from India in rupees?
USD 25 for single entry, so roughly ₹2,100 to ₹2,300 depending on the exchange rate and your card's foreign transaction charge. Multiple entry is USD 50. Agents charge considerably more.
Once the visa is sorted
Vietnam rewards a longer trip than most people give it. The country runs 1,600 km north to south and the two ends feel like different places.
- Vietnam: Ha Long Awakening — Hanoi and Ha Long Bay, 6 days from ₹54,999
- Da Nang & Hoi An: Heritage Coast — the central coast and the lantern town, 5 days from ₹42,999
- Sapa: North Vietnam Trek — rice terraces and hill villages, 6 days from ₹47,999
- Saigon & the Mekong South — the delta and the south, 5 days from ₹39,999
- Vietnam: The Grand Loop — north to south properly, 10 days from ₹79,999
Browse all our Vietnam trips, or tell us your dates and we will build one around them, and check the visa dates against your flights.
Visa rules and fees change. Everything above reflects the published position at the time of writing; always confirm the current requirements on evisa.gov.vn before you apply or book flights.
