The route we start from

These are the stages published for this trip. A stage can cover part of a day or several days; it is not a separate travel day.

  1. Stage 01

    Arrive in Haridwar

Stay in Haridwar and check the agreed sequence, personal registration, opening notices and road advice before entering the hills.

  2. Stage 02

    Haridwar to Barkot area

Travel towards the Yamunotri approach. Stay near Barkot; specify the actual night stop and road transfer in the quote.

  3. Stage 03

    Yamunotri approach

Use the road approach towards Janki Chatti and, if the route and party allow, walk towards Yamunotri and back. Stay again near Barkot.

  4. Stage 04

    Barkot area to Uttarkashi

Make the road transfer to Uttarkashi and stay two nights. Keep the arrival day free of long walks.

  5. Stage 05

    Gangotri return

Visit the Gangotri approach by road subject to the day's controls; return to Uttarkashi rather than pressing on to a third shrine.

  6. Stage 06

    On towards Guptkashi

Keep the day for the long road journey to the Guptkashi area. Rest here before the Kedarnath stages.

  7. Stage 07

    Gaurikund to Kedarnath

Confirm current roadhead transfers before leaving Guptkashi. From Gaurikund the district describes a roughly 17 km uphill trek to Kedarnath. Start only with the route open and a confirmed night stop near the shrine; otherwise change the stages.

  8. Stage 08

    Kedarnath descent

Descend to Gaurikund and return by the permitted transfer to the Guptkashi area for the night. This is a second substantial walking day, not an onward transfer to Badrinath.

  9. Stage 09

    Spare mountain day

Keep a flexible night near Guptkashi for recovery or a road delay. It is not a guarantee that a closed route can be recovered.

  10. Stage 10

    Break the drive at Pipalkoti

Travel east to the Pipalkoti area and stop overnight. Confirm road conditions before fixing the next day's Badrinath approach.

  11. Stage 11

    Badrinath

Continue to Badrinath and keep an overnight in the area subject to accommodation and opening notices. Allow the party to abandon the visit if conditions change.

  12. Stage 12

    Return towards Srinagar

Use the day to descend towards Srinagar in Garhwal, stopping there rather than attempting a same-day airport connection.

  13. Stage 13

    Return to Haridwar

Continue to Haridwar and spend the night. Give the plains transfer its own day before the onward journey.

  14. Stage 14

    Depart from Haridwar

Conclude at Haridwar station or arrange a separately timed airport transfer. Confirm any onward ticket independently of mountain road estimates.
