The story
Two stops, both named on the operator's list. The first is Phra Phuttha Ming Mongkhon Ek Nakkhiri, known as the Phuket Big Buddha: a seated Buddha 45 metres high and 25.45 metres wide, built of reinforced concrete and faced in white and jade marble brought from Myanmar. It was named in 2007 by three highly revered monks, and from the image you look out over Chalong Bay in front and towards Kata and Karon behind (Tourism Authority of Thailand, checked 24 Sep 2026). The second is Wat Chalong, also called Wat Chaitharam, on Chao Fa Road in Chalong. It is an important place of worship for Phuket's own Buddhists, above all because of Luang Por Chaem, a monk remembered for his mastery of meditation and traditional Thai medicine; his image and that of Luang Por Chuang are kept in the chapel, and people still come to pay their respects.
What it feels like: the Big Buddha is larger than any photograph prepares you for. You arrive and there it is, white against the sky, with the bay spread out below and the sun strong on the marble. Wat Chalong is closer to daily life: a working temple where local people come to pay their respects, not a monument. For a traveller from Ahmedabad who has grown up with temple mornings, it feels familiar, only in a different language. Both take about four hours.
Who this suits, and why: active seniors and three-generation families, because it is half a day with a vehicle and two calm, meaningful stops rather than a boat or a queue; pilgrim-minded travellers and anyone who wants to see the Phuket that exists beyond its beaches; couples and first-time families who want an easy morning between two island days.

Know before you go
- Both stops are places of worship. The Tourism Authority of Thailand asks visitors not to wear shorts, short skirts, sleeveless tops or see-through clothes in a temple; carry a light scarf or wrap, and wear shoes that slip off easily.
- It is hot in the open in the middle of the day: carry water, a hat and sunscreen, and ask for a morning start if you are travelling with grandparents or small children.
- If anyone in your group finds steps or slopes difficult, tell your captain before you book so the walking at each stop can be checked with the operator.
- Whether a guide travels with you, and in which language, is confirmed by your captain with the operator.
- The private option is shown per person because the operator does not say whether it is priced per person or per vehicle; your captain confirms it before you pay.
- Child and infant prices and age bands are not on the operator's list; your captain quotes them with the operator.
- Availability is confirmed by the operator when your captain books; a booking can be declined by the supplier for a price change, allocation or stop-sale.
