The Visit
Timed entry at Nakheel Mall on the Palm, then the lift to level 52 of Palm Tower, which takes under a minute. The observatory is the only place where the shape of the island resolves into the palm it is named after: the trunk, the fronds and the crescent breakwater around them, all of it reclaimed from the Gulf in the early 2000s. Atlantis sits at the far end of the crescent and the Dubai skyline runs along the horizon behind you. Around an hour on the deck is enough, and a sunset slot is worth booking ahead because the light coming off the water is the reason to come rather than the height.
