The route we start from

These are the stages published for this trip. A stage can cover part of a day or several days; it is not a separate travel day.

1. Stage 01

   Arrival

   Land and get to the beach for the evening, because everything else this week starts early. The point of tonight is orientation and an early night: the waterfall trip leaves at dawn and the jeep queue at Mollem is not a thing you want to join late.

2. Stage 02

   Dudhsagar

   Dudhsagar, which means sea of milk and is a four-tier fall of around 310 metres on the Mandovi. Private vehicles cannot reach it, so the last stretch is a forest-department jeep through the Bhagwan Mahavir sanctuary, fording streams. Swimming at the base is permitted when the flow allows.

3. Stage 03

   Scuba

   Out to Grande Island for a discover-scuba dive, which needs no certification and starts with a pool-style briefing in shallow water. Visibility here is moderate rather than Maldivian, but the reef has plenty on it, and the boat day includes snorkelling for anyone who would rather stay up top.

4. Stage 04

   Rafting

   White water on the Mhadei, which runs grade two to three in the monsoon months and is gentler outside them. A jungle trek in the afternoon through spice country, which is the quiet counterweight to a week of engines and adrenaline.

5. Stage 05

   The Return

   A last beach morning and the flight home. Four nights, one waterfall almost nobody sees in the dry season, one dive, and a version of Goa that has nothing to do with shacks and playlists.
