The route we start from

These are the stages published for this trip. A stage can cover part of a day or several days; it is not a separate travel day.

  1. Stage 01

    Arrive in Patna

Stay overnight in Patna. This keeps the planned visits off arrival day and makes a delayed connection easier to handle.

  2. Stage 02

    Nalanda to Rajgir

Leave Patna for the Nalanda Mahavihara ruins. Allow time on foot before continuing to Rajgir for the night.

  3. Stage 03

    Rajgir to Bodh Gaya

Choose a Rajgir stop such as Venu Van before moving to Bodh Gaya. Stay two nights here rather than trying to see the Mahabodhi precinct at the end of a transfer.

  4. Stage 04

    A day in Bodh Gaya

Leave time around the Mahabodhi Temple precinct for quiet visits or personal practice. Visiting a monastery or a particular ceremony depends on its own arrangements.

  5. Stage 05

    Transfer to Varanasi

Keep the day for the overland journey and settle into Varanasi for two nights. No timed temple visit depends on an arrival estimate.

  6. Stage 06

    Sarnath from Varanasi

Spend the day in Sarnath around the archaeological remains. The museum can be considered if open; return to Varanasi for the night.

  7. Stage 07

    Finish in Varanasi

Leave from Varanasi station or airport. The journey does not require onward travel through Nepal.
