Kazakhstan Visa for Indians: 14 Days Visa-Free (2026)

Indian passport holders do not need a visa for Kazakhstan for stays of up to 14 days, whether the trip is for tourism, business or a private visit. Across all your visits, visa-free days must not add up to more than 42 in any 180 days. The rule comes from Decree 464 of the Government of Kazakhstan, dated 7 July 2022, and has applied since 8 July 2022.
That covers most trips from Ahmedabad. The details that cause problems are below, including passport validity, which we could not confirm on any official page. Entry rules change, so check with the Embassy of Kazakhstan in New Delhi before you travel.
Kazakhstan visa for Indians: the official rule
We checked these three government pages on 19 September 2026, and they agree:
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, 10 July 2022. It announces Decree 464 of 7 July 2022: up to 14 days' continuous visa-free stay, and no more than 42 days in every 180.
- Embassy of Kazakhstan in India, 11 July 2022. It gives the same rule and names the purposes it covers: business, private and tourist trips.
- Embassy of India, Astana. The same limits, on a page last updated on 18 September 2026.
The rule in brief:
- Up to 14 days per visit. You pay no fee, and there is nothing to apply for.
- No more than 42 visa-free days in any 180-day period.
- Tourism, business and private visits only.
- In force since 8 July 2022, according to the Kazakh Embassy in London's consular page.
How the 14 days are counted
The London embassy's page is the most precise of the official notices. It allows up to "14 calendar days from the moment of border crossing". The clock starts when you clear passport control, usually at Almaty airport. It does not wait for your hotel check-in.
That has two practical effects:
- Don't plan up to the last day. If your flight home is cancelled on day 14, the overstay is yours, not the airline's. Keep a day or two in hand. With a 14-day limit, that means no more than 12 nights on the ground.
- Don't count on an extension. None of the government notices we read mentions extending a visa-free stay. If you need more than 14 days, arrange a visa before you travel, not after you land. The Embassy of Kazakhstan in New Delhi can tell you which category fits.
How the 42-day limit works
This limit matters only if you visit often. Count back 180 days from any day you are in Kazakhstan. The visa-free days inside that window must add up to 42 or fewer. Three 14-day trips within six months would use up the whole allowance, while one family holiday a year never comes close. Frequent business visitors should check their own dates with the embassy.
What the visa-free rule does not cover
- Study and work. The official notices list business, private and tourist trips only. If you are going to study, including for an MBBS course, or to take up a job, you need the right visa, arranged in advance.
- Stays longer than 14 days, as above.
- A visa on arrival. We found no official Kazakh notice that offers Indians a visa on arrival for a longer stay, so don't plan around one.
Documents to carry
The official notices list no documents apart from your passport. This is what we tell travellers to carry anyway:
- A passport with at least six months' validity from the day you land. We could not find a validity rule for visa-free Indian visitors on any Kazakh or Indian government page we checked. Agency pages ask for anything from three to six months. Six months meets every version we have seen, so use that figure until the embassy says otherwise.
- A printed return or onward ticket dated within your 14 days.
- Printed hotel confirmations for every night.
None of the paperwork is a formal requirement. It simply answers, in seconds, when you are leaving and where you are staying.
Hotel registration and E-Qonaq
You do not register yourself.
According to the official website of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, visitors from visa-free countries have not had to register their place of stay since 2020. Before that, they had to do it within five days. Instead, whoever receives you notifies the authorities of your arrival through a system called E-Qonaq. That is your hotel, or the person you stay with.
- In a hotel, the hotel does it. Just hand over your passport at check-in.
- In a private flat, a homestay or with friends, your host is responsible. Ask them before you arrive whether they will file the E-Qonaq notification. Don't assume they know.
A law signed in July 2025 adds registration for foreigners staying more than 30 days. It does not affect a 14-day visit.
Why some agency pages still say you need a visa
Some agency pages still quote visa processing times for a visit that needs no visa. On 19 September 2026, a Kazakhstan package page aimed at Ahmedabad travellers still said a tourist visa takes 7 to 10 working days and needs an invitation letter. Another page, for a combined Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan tour, gave 15 to 20 working days.
The likeliest reasons are simple. Either the page was written before July 2022 and never updated, or the tour includes a second country with its own entry rules and the whole package is described the same way. If a quote for a Kazakhstan-only trip of 14 days or fewer includes a visa fee or visa processing, ask the agency what it is for.
Watch for look-alike e-visa websites
At least one e-visa website on a .com address ranks for this search. It lists India among the eligible countries and prices a tourist e-visa from USD 110. For a stay of up to 14 days you need no visa at all, so there is nothing to buy.
Kazakh government pages sit on gov.kz, and the Indian Embassy in Astana is on indembastana.gov.in. We have seen the same problem with Vietnam's e-visa, where official-looking agent sites charge well above the government fee.
FAQs
Is Kazakhstan visa-free for Indians?
Yes, for up to 14 days per visit and no more than 42 days in any 180-day period, for tourist, business and private trips. The rule has applied since July 2022 under Decree 464 of the Government of Kazakhstan. Confirm with the Embassy of Kazakhstan in New Delhi before you travel, because entry rules can change.
How much does a Kazakhstan visa cost for Indians?
Nothing for a stay of up to 14 days, because you don't need a visa. If an agency quote includes a visa fee for a Kazakhstan-only trip within that limit, ask what it covers. Longer stays, study and work need a visa arranged in advance, and the embassy can tell you the current fee.
Can Indians stay in Kazakhstan for 30 days?
Not without a visa. The visa-free stay is capped at 14 days, and none of the government notices we checked mentions extending it. For 30 days, arrange a visa before you fly. We found no official offer of a visa on arrival for Indians.
What documents do Indians need for visa-free entry to Kazakhstan?
Your passport is the one that matters. We could not confirm the required validity from an official source, so travel with at least six months left from your arrival date. Also carry printed copies of your return ticket and hotel bookings. Your hotel handles the arrival notification through E-Qonaq.
Planning Kazakhstan from Ahmedabad
There is no nonstop flight from Ahmedabad to Almaty. The shortest routes connect in Delhi or Mumbai, and there are Gulf connections through Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Doha. The length of that connection shapes the trip far more than any visa question.
We don't run a set Kazakhstan trip at the moment, but we plan private journeys around your dates. Tell us when you want to go, and we will work out the flights and the nights with a comfortable margin inside the 14 days. GST and TCS are shown in your written quote.
