The route we start from

These are the stages published for this trip. A stage can cover part of a day or several days; it is not a separate travel day.

1. Stage 01

   Fethiye

   Board at Fethiye in the afternoon. A gulet is a wooden two-masted boat built locally for exactly this, with cabins below and most of the living done on deck. The first evening is a short run out to a quiet cove, the anchor down, a swim off the stern, and dinner cooked on board.

2. Stage 02

   Butterfly Valley

   South along the coast with swim stops wherever the captain likes the water. Butterfly Valley is a gorge that comes down between cliffs to a beach reachable only by boat, with a walk up the streambed inside it. Afternoons settle into a rhythm of swim, eat, read, swim again.

3. Stage 03

   Ölüdeniz

   Oludeniz and the Blue Lagoon, a sheltered bar of water the colour of a swimming pool. Above it is Babadag, at nearly 2,000 metres, the launch point for paragliding over the lagoon: the tandem flight takes about half an hour and lands on the beach next to the boat.

4. Stage 04

   Kekova

   Kekova, where a Lycian town slid into the sea in an earthquake nearly two thousand years ago. You snorkel over foundations, staircases and doorways in clear shallow water, then look up at the castle at Simena on the hillside, which is still lived under and has a handful of tombs standing in the bay.

5. Stage 05

   Coves

   The last full day is coves and nothing else, which by this stage of a gulet week is exactly what everyone wants. A final swim, the captain's dinner on deck, and the option of sleeping on a mattress up top under a sky with no light pollution anywhere near it.

6. Stage 06

   The Return

   Disembark at Fethiye in the morning and transfer for the flight home. Six days on a wooden boat, a coastline with a sunken city in it, and legs that have forgotten what shoes are for.
