The route we start from

These are the stages published for this trip. A stage can cover part of a day or several days; it is not a separate travel day.

1. Stage 01

   Arrival

   Land at Phuket, transfer to the villa, and the first thing you do is open the doors onto your own pool. Champagne on the deck as the light goes, and dinner either brought to you or a short walk away. Nothing else is asked of you today, which after a night flight is the correct amount.

2. Stage 02

   Slow Day One

   The floating breakfast arrives on a tray in the pool, which is faintly ridiculous and photographs beautifully, and is also a genuinely good breakfast. The rest of the day is the pool, the sea, and a beach club later if you want other people around. Most couples decide they do not.

3. Stage 03

   Phang Nga Private

   A longtail chartered for the two of you into Phang Nga bay, which is limestone towers standing straight out of flat green water for as far as you can see. Through the sea caves at the right state of tide, into a hidden lagoon that can only be entered when the water is low, and back before the day boats arrive.

4. Stage 04

   Spa & Old Town

   A two-hour couples' ritual in the morning: scrub, massage, and the part where you both fall asleep. The afternoon is Old Phuket Town, which almost nobody visits: Sino-Portuguese shophouses in faded pastel, coffee roasters, and a dinner walk through the Sunday street market if the timing lands.

5. Stage 05

   Island Pick

   Your choice of island, and the honest difference is crowd rather than beauty. Phi Phi is the famous one, with Maya Bay and the viewpoint climb; Coral Island is twenty minutes out and far quieter. Either way you go by private speedboat, so you arrive before the tour boats and leave when you want.

6. Stage 06

   The Beach Dinner

   The day is deliberately empty so the evening lands properly. A table is set on an empty stretch of sand as the light goes, candles and lanterns, a cook and a server who then leave you alone with the sea a few metres away. It is the photograph people put on the wall.

7. Stage 07

   The Return

   A last slow morning and the flight home. Six nights, one pool that was only ever yours, and a dinner on an empty beach that you will be describing to people for years.
