The route we start from

These are the stages published for this trip. A stage can cover part of a day or several days; it is not a separate travel day.

1. Stage 01

   Arrival

   Land and let everyone swim before anything else is attempted, because the flight is long and the queue for enthusiasm is short. In the evening, Gardens by the Bay: the tallest Supertrees rise over 160 feet, and the free Garden Rhapsody light show runs at 7.45pm and 8.45pm nightly.

2. Stage 02

   Universal Day

   Universal Studios Singapore, open to close. It is compact enough that a family can do the whole thing in a day without a death march: Transformers and the Mummy for the older ones, Minion Land and Far Far Away for the smaller ones, and the shows when everybody needs to sit down.

3. Stage 03

   Sentosa

   Sentosa properly. The cable car over the harbour, the Skyline luge, which children will insist on riding four times, and the S.E.A. Aquarium, where the main viewing panel is one of the largest in the world and is the moment everybody goes quiet. Beach at the end for sunset.

4. Stage 04

   City Picks

   A flexible day: the Science Centre if the weather turns or the group wants air conditioning, shopping on Orchard Road if that is the mood. In the evening a river cruise, which is short, seated and lets everyone look at the skyline instead of walking through it.

5. Stage 05

   The Return

   A last swim, then Jewel at Changi on the way to the gate. The Rain Vortex is a forty-metre waterfall falling through the middle of the terminal into a forest, and it is worth deliberately arriving early for rather than catching in passing.
