What we work through with you

  1. Your dates and priorities

Tell us when you want to visit Queenstown, NZ, who is travelling and what you would change in the outline below.

  2. The route and pace

We discuss the 7D / 6N starting itinerary, your preferred stays and how much you want to fit in. Any changes depend on availability and are agreed in your written plan.

  3. Your written quote

Review the final arrangements, total price, inclusions and payment and cancellation terms before booking. An enquiry does not reserve this trip.

The route we start from

These are the stages published for this trip. A stage can cover part of a day or several days; it is not a separate travel day.

  1. Stage 01

    Arrive

Land in Queenstown, where the runway sits between mountains and the landing is the day's first adrenaline for free. Settle in, then the Skyline gondola for dinner above the lake, partly for the view and partly to look down at tomorrow's terrain while you still feel calm about it.

  2. Stage 02

    Bungee Day

The Kawarau Bridge, where commercial bungy was invented in 1988, forty-three metres over a green river with the option of being dipped in it. The jump itself takes about four seconds and the queue takes rather longer. Afterwards, a winery in the Gibbston valley to let the hands stop shaking.

  3. Stage 03

    Jet & Swing

Two in one day. The Shotover Jet in the morning, a flat-bottomed boat through a narrow rock canyon at speed with full 360 spins and the walls closer than you will believe. Then the Nevis Swing in the afternoon: a 300-metre arc across a canyon, which is longer than it sounds.

  4. Stage 04

    Skydive Window

Held for the skydive, and held specifically because it is weather-called. If the cloud is right you jump from 12,000 or 15,000 feet over the lake with the Southern Alps on the horizon. If it is not, you go to Arrowtown, a preserved gold-rush village, and we try again later in the week.

  5. Stage 05

    Milford

The rest day, and it is only nominally restful. Out to Milford Sound through the Homer Tunnel for a cruise into the fiord, with cliffs a kilometre high and waterfalls everywhere. Roughly four hours of driving each way, which after three days of this is a genuine luxury.

  6. Stage 06

    Free Fall(back)

Second weather window for anyone the sky refused earlier in the week. If the skydive has already happened, the alternative is the luge on the gondola hill, which is faster than it looks and unexpectedly competitive, or the canyon swing for a second and worse experience.

  7. Stage 07

    The Return

Fly out of Queenstown. Seven days, four separate opportunities to distrust a harness, and a resting heart rate that will take about a fortnight to come back down.
