The story
Most places are worse in the rain. Milford is better — it gets around seven metres of rain a year and every one of those cliffs turns into a waterfall within minutes. On a dry day there are two permanent falls. On a wet one there are hundreds.
The boat runs the length of the fiord to the Tasman Sea and back, under Mitre Peak, close enough to Stirling Falls that the bow gets soaked. Fur seals on the rocks, dolphins if the day is generous.
