The story

Khao Kheow Open Zoo is one of the zoos of Thailand's Zoological Park Organization, at Bang Phra in the Si Racha district of Chon Buri province. It is outside Pattaya, not in the town, so plan it as a day out rather than an evening. The Tourism Authority of Thailand describes a green, well-shaded zoo where most of the original forest has been kept, with over 200 species from Asia and Africa, open enclosures that visitors walk around freely, golf carts for hire, and a troop of macaques that roam the grounds. The zoo's own site describes an African savanna section, ringed by a dry ditch, where giraffes, zebras, ostriches, rhinoceros and antelope share one area.
