What we work through with you
Your date and who is joining
Tell us the date you want and who is coming, with children’s ages and any access or food needs, so we can check suitability with the operator.
The practical arrangements
We check available times, the meeting point, transport if listed and the operator’s requirements. Optional extras are confirmed separately.
Your written quote
Review the final arrangements, total price, inclusions and payment and cancellation terms before booking. An enquiry does not reserve this trip.
The experience outline
Boarding time and point are confirmed for your date.
- Step 01
Board
Board at the riverside jetty at lantern hour, which is shortly after sunset when the old town switches over and the silk lanterns along both banks come on. The boat is a small wooden rowboat for two to four with a host who rows rather than motors, so the whole thing is quiet.
- Step 02
The Drift
Roughly thirty minutes on the Thu Bon, which is narrow here and lined with two-storey merchant houses from the town's trading centuries, now lit from inside. You light a paper wish-lantern and set it on the water, which everyone on every boat is also doing, so the river fills with drifting colour.
- Step 03
Sweet End
Ashore for che, which is a Vietnamese sweet soup served in a glass with beans, jelly and coconut milk and is better than that description, then a walk back through the old town while it is still glowing. Full-moon nights, on the fourteenth of the lunar month, turn the electric lights off entirely.
