The story
Gokarna is what Goa was before Goa became Goa — a temple town with a string of beaches strung along the headlands south of it.
You walk between them over the cliffs, which takes most of a day and cannot be done by road. Paradise Beach at the far end has no vehicle access at all, which is precisely why it is worth the walk.
What happens
The plan as the operator runs it. Start times and pickup are confirmed for your date.
-
A full day walking the coves, starting at Kudle and crossing the headland to Om beach, which takes about thirty minutes on a clifftop path and is named for the shape of its two joined crescents. From Om the path continues to Half Moon and then Paradise, neither of which has road access, which is precisely why they stay empty and why almost everyone arrives on foot or not at all. Allow two to three hours of actual walking with swim stops built in, carry water because there are only a handful of shacks along the way, and wear something with grip since the path is rock and dry earth rather than sand. A boat back around the headland at the end saves the return leg, and Om beach is where you want to be for the sunset anyway.
