The story
The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway has been running since 1881 and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The gauge is two feet, and the engines are vintage B-class steam locomotives. The line runs along the road, through the bazaar, close enough that people step back from their shopfronts, and it loops through Batasia to gain height because the hill is too steep to take directly.
