The story
The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway has been running since 1881 and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site — one of very few that you buy a ticket and ride rather than walk around.
The gauge is two feet. The engine is a B-class steam locomotive older than most countries' railways. It runs along the road, through the bazaar, close enough that people step back from their shopfronts, and it loops through Batasia to gain height because the hill is too steep to take directly.
