The story
Pratumnak Hill, which Thai sources call Khao Phra Tamnak or Khao Phra Bat, is the low green hill between South Pattaya and Jomtien, close to Bali Hai Cape. It is Royal Thai Navy land. On top are Wat Khao Phra Bat, which keeps a Buddha footprint, and a monument to Krom Luang Chumphon, whom the Navy honours as its father; beside them is a viewing area that looks over the whole curve of Pattaya beach with the city behind it (Tourism Authority of Thailand, and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports directory, both checked 24 Sep 2026). There is no charge to visit.
The operator pairs the hill with the Big Buddha at Wat Phra Yai. The Ministry's directory says the temple's great seated Buddha, known as Luang Por Yai, was completed in 1977 and stands about 72 feet tall. A stairway leads up to it, with bells along the path that visitors strike for good fortune, and around it are a standing Buddha and the Buddha images for each day of the week. It is a working temple and free to enter.
What it feels like: a quiet morning above a noisy city. At the viewpoint you get the bay laid out like a map, boats crossing it and towers along the shore; at the Big Buddha, the climb, the ring of the bells and the calm of a working temple that Thai and foreign visitors come to every day. The day-of-the-week Buddhas make a small, personal moment for a family from Ahmedabad: look for the one for the day you were born.
Who this suits, and why: seniors and multigenerational families who want something calm and meaningful; the school-holiday family on a first morning in Pattaya; couples who want the view. The stairway is the one effort, and it can be taken slowly.
