The story
Sky Views is an observatory at the top of Address Sky View, a hotel tower in Downtown Dubai linked to the Dubai Mall metro. The venue's own pages describe a panoramic glass lift that carries you to more than 219.5 metres above the ground, a 46-metre glass floor on the observation level, and the Glass Slide: a clear tube fixed to the outside of the tower that takes you from level 53 down to level 52. The venue says the slide was made in Germany from 12-metre sheets of four-layer laminated glass and is held only at its top and bottom, so nothing interrupts the view on the way down. This ticket includes one ride.
What it feels like: the lift ride up is the warm-up, with the city dropping away through the glass. At the top the Downtown skyline and the coast spread out below, and the glass floor is where half the group edges forward and the other half takes the photographs. Then comes the slide. You sit on a mat, your phone goes into a pouch, and for a few seconds there is nothing between you and the street far below except clear glass. It is over quickly, and you come out at the bottom laughing and wishing the ticket allowed a second go; it allows one.
Who this suits: the friends group and the bachelor or bachelorette group, for whom the slide is the whole point; the family with teenagers, as long as each one who wants to slide is at least 12 years old and 120 cm tall; and the couple's escape, as a short, sharp hour before dinner at the Dubai Mall. Younger children and anyone over 65 cannot slide under the venue's rules, but can enjoy the observatory and its glass floor. The whole visit takes about 35 minutes by the venue's estimate.
