The story

Most of the operator's Krabi day trips go out to sea. This one turns inland, to three places the Tourism Authority of Thailand describes on its own site (tourismthailand.org, checked 24 Sep 2026). Wat Tham Suea, the Tiger Cave Temple, sits on Khao Kaeo at Krabi Noi, in Mueang Krabi district. It began as a meditation monastery and takes its name from the tigers that once lived in the cave, where a natural stone in the shape of a tiger's paw can still be seen. At the top of the hill, up a stairway of 1,237 steps, stand a chedi, a replica of the Buddha's footprint and a large seated Buddha, with a view all round over Krabi town and the oddly shaped hills around it. Sa Morakot, the Emerald Pool, lies in the Khao Phra-Bang Khram Wildlife Sanctuary at Khlong Thom, which has a 1,400-metre nature trail: the emerald-green main pool is fed by warm streams and you may swim in it, while the clear blue Sa Namphut, its source, lies about 600 metres from it. The operator does not name the hot springs; one the Tourism Authority describes in the same subdistrict as the Emerald Pool, Khlong Thom Nuea, is Namtok Ron Khlong Thom, where hot water seeps up through the forest floor and runs over limestone into the Khlong Thom stream like a small waterfall, with a pool beside it for soaking.

What it feels like: a green, humid day of shade and water rather than sand. At the temple the stairway is the moment of decision: some of the group climb, some stay below with the tiger's-paw stone and the shrines. The forest walk to the Emerald Pool is in shade, and the first step into warm green water is the reward for the heat of the morning. The hot springs end the day slowly, sitting in water that is properly hot, then drying off in the shade before the drive back.

Who this suits, and why: the school-holiday family and the family with teenagers, who get a swim, a forest walk and a temple in one day with no boat; friends groups who want to climb the 1,237 steps for the view; and active seniors and multigenerational groups who are happy to skip the climb and enjoy the pools. It is a lot of walking and heat for toddlers, and anyone who dislikes stairs should simply stay at the temple's foot.

What happens

The plan as the operator runs it. Start times and pickup are confirmed for your date.

  1. Collection from your Krabi hotel; the pickup time and the order of the stops come with your voucher. Your captain checks that your hotel is inside the operator's pickup area.

  2. The temple and the cave at the foot of Khao Kaeo, with the tiger's-paw stone. The 1,237-step climb to the summit is optional; your captain confirms how long the tour allows here.

  3. The emerald-green pool in the Khao Phra-Bang Khram Wildlife Sanctuary, where swimming is allowed. The sanctuary's nature trail runs 1,400 metres; your captain confirms how far the walk to the pool is. The blue pool, Sa Namphut, is about 600 metres from the Emerald Pool if time allows.

  4. Your captain confirms which hot spring the tour uses. At the Khlong Thom hot spring waterfall, in the Emerald Pool's district, hot water runs over limestone into the stream, with a pool for soaking nearby.

  5. Back to your Krabi hotel; the whole day runs about 7 hours by the operator.
