Gokarna is what beach towns were before beach towns got LinkedIn profiles. The trip is built around the classic cliff trek: Om Beach's double curve, Half Moon's shack settlement, Paradise's total detachment — all on foot, all barefoot-adjacent.

Nights are grilled fish, guitar someone always brings, and a sea that does the talking.

The Friday sleeper, arriving in the morning, and straight to a cliffside place above one of the coves. Gokarna is a temple town with beaches attached rather than a resort strip, which is the whole reason it still feels the way it does. Om beach for sunset, which is named for its shape.
The beach trek, which is the point of the weekend: over the headlands from Om to Half Moon to Paradise, about two hours on a clifftop path with swim stops. There are no roads to the last two, so they stay empty. Bonfire and grilled fish at night.
A lazy morning, with the option of the temple town itself, which most visitors skip entirely and which is the older and more interesting half of Gokarna. Then the sleeper home. Two nights, five beaches, and phone reception that is mercifully unreliable.
