The story
South Goa is where people go when they have already done North Goa and did not enjoy it. Palolem is a single curved bay with a river at one end and almost no concrete.
Agonda is quieter still. The days are dolphins in the morning, a hammock through the afternoon and dinner on the sand, and that is genuinely the whole itinerary.
Your journey outline
Each stage can cover one or more days. Tell us what you would change; your final itinerary is agreed before booking.
-
Transfer south from the airport, which takes about an hour and leaves the crowds behind at roughly the halfway mark. Palolem and Agonda are crescent bays with huts and low-rise places on the sand rather than resorts behind a road. Settle in, and the first sunset is from wherever you are standing.
-
A dawn boat out of Palolem, which is the right time for dolphins and the only time Butterfly Beach is empty. The beach is reachable only by sea or a jungle path, small, and worth the early start. Back by mid-morning, and the rest of the day is deliberately unallocated.
-
South along the coast to Cabo de Rama, a Portuguese fort on a headland with a chapel still in use and cliffs dropping straight to the sea. The beaches below it, Cola and Kakolem, are quieter and harder to reach. Sunset from the fort walls.
-
Nothing is planned, and that is the design. A hammock, the sea, a book, and dinner at a table set on the sand. Palolem's silent disco happens on some nights, where everyone wears headphones and switches channels, and it is either the best thing here or entirely avoidable depending on the couple.
-
A last swim and the transfer back to the airport. Four nights in the half of Goa that does not stay up all night, which is either a disappointment or exactly what you came for.
