The story

Mu Ko Ang Thong National Marine Park is an archipelago of around 40 small islands about 20 km from Koh Samui (tourismthailand.org, checked 24 Sep 2026; the operator's own sheet names it a 42-island cruise). The hub island, Ko Wua Ta Lab, has a 400-metre trail up to a summit view over the archipelago and the Gulf of Thailand, and a natural lagoon, with a path of natural steps up to a viewpoint over its emerald water and the rocky cliffs around it (tourismthailand.org). Several other islands in the group, including Ko Sam Sao and Ko Wua Kan Tang, are used for snorkelling. The operator's day tour goes by big boat, with snorkelling, kayaking and the lagoon on the programme, for about 8 hours.

What it feels like: a full day out on open water among limestone islands rising straight out of the sea, with a proper walk to a viewpoint if the programme includes it, a swim where the boat stops for snorkelling, and the closed-in calm of the lagoon after the open sea. The Ko Wua Ta Lab summit trail is 400 metres uphill, not a stroll.

Who this suits, and why: families with children old enough for a full day on the water, couples wanting one proper island day rather than several short stops, and friends groups keen on the kayaking and snorkelling. Anyone who gets seasick easily should think carefully about a full day at sea, and anyone who cannot manage the climb can stay at sea level.

What happens

The plan as the operator runs it. Start times and pickup are confirmed for your date.

  1. Collection from your Koh Samui hotel and the drive to the pier; the pickup time and pier come with your voucher.

  2. Out to the archipelago by big boat; the order of stops is set by the operator on the day.

  3. Time at Ko Wua Ta Lab for the viewpoint trail and the lagoon, and at other islands for snorkelling and kayaking, as the programme allows.

  4. Back to the pier and your Koh Samui hotel; the day runs about 8 hours by the operator.
